January, for me, traditionally brings with it, the blues. After a full month of festive cheer and endless work, January brings a sparse selection of flowers and a tax return. Thankfully this year, I’ve avoided the misery by taking a holiday and being marginally more organised than previous years. It turns out January isn’t so bad after all.

As the month goes on, spring is unfurling here and there. Yellows and blues are emerging. After Christmas I’m always ready to steer clear of red flowers, berries and winter greenery for, well, a year really. What a relief to see witch hazel, blossom and ranunculus. It’s not at full tilt yet but that’ll all change next month. Bringing me on to Valentine’s Day.

There will be no red roses here. But there will be little pots of scented spring beauty for those of you who are feeling romantic and choose to express it through the medium of flowers. Hey, maybe I’ll even make and photograph some such potential pots this week to whet your appetites. Watch this space…
