Halloween. In the florists calender this often means pumpkins, physalis, dyed orange grevillea and felt ghosts on sticks. I am rejecting all of the above in favour of an homage to Dario Argento slasher films. Tenebrae in particular is filmed in a harsh white light so when those beautiful Italian ladies meet their untimely fates, the contrast of the red and white is alarming.
I will not be delivering flowers that look like this obviously.
But I did leave the bloody white gladioli on show in the studio one afternoon and then thought - “imagine if a bride, or a bride’s mother looked through the window?” That blood was pretty convincing… As I smeared it on the petals, worried that the drips were not “Argento” enough, I felt sick. But you know, in a job where “prettiness” and “gorgeousness” are so highly prized, this made a nice change.
