I came to love Joni Mitchell through osmosis. When I was growing up she was on heavy rotation in the house and in the car. When I hear songs now that I thought I didn’t know, I suddenly realise that I recognise the lyrics.
Since Joni became ill, I’ve been worrying about her. The worry led me to read about her on the internet. Apparently a lot of people think her attitude stinks and are disappointed that she’s not a feminist, that she’s disparaging about cover versions of her songs, that she thinks Bob Dylan is a fake, etc. None of this really concerns me. I applaud her for being as cantankerous as some of her male peers. I made up my Easter weddings listening to 70′s non-folk Joni. Who did what she thought was right, never compromised and created complete beauty. INSPIRATION.
Next weekend I will be filling the van with plants, flowers and herbs and heading to the Jesmond Food Market for a change of scenery. Come and say hi, buy some tulips, maybe a house plant and enjoy hanging out in one of Newcastle’s most beautiful spots. Whilst eating great food. And probably seeing amazing dogs out on walks. Does it get any better?
